My name is Jenny McKinnis.
I am a painter who strives to capture the essence of people and places. I work mainly oil on canvas.
I have trained as a fashion illustrator and designer. After a career in the fashion industry, I also worked in art education.
My work is mainly figurative, reflecting my love of pen and wash illustration as well as traditional, oil on canvas portraiture.
Both aspects of my work depict my characteristic gestural style.
Over the last 30 years, I have exhibited in many group shows and my work has won numerous awards.
I have recently retired to the beautiful Bellarine Peninsula after a career in Art and Design.
My love of painting with oils began almost 30 years ago. There is nothing quite like the rich colour and texture which can be achieved with this medium.
My style can be described as gestural, and working large-scale allows me to create broad, spontaneous brushstrokes. My work has been mainly figurative, concentrating on portraiture over the last 20 years. However, the local landscape and seascape has inspired a more abstract direction to my work which has been a welcome challenge.
My work has won numerous prizes over the years, but I now paint mainly for pleasure which is not difficult in this beautiful part of the world.
